Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has opened the door to a summer departure, amid interest from Liverpool.

Mbeumo has established himself as a key member of Thomas Frank's squad since joining the club from Troyes for £5.6m in 2019.

The Cameroon international has made 200 competitive appearances for the Bees, scoring 50 goals and contributing 42 assists.

Mbeumo was forced to miss the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations after spending three months out of action with an ankle injury that he sustained in December.

Despite suffering an injury setback, Mbeumo still managed to enjoy a productive 2023-24 campaign, registering nine goals and six assists in 25 Premier League matches.

Mbeumo comments on future amid Liverpool links

Mbeumo's impressive performances have led to speculation surrounding his long-term future with the West London club.

According to L'Equipe, Liverpool have emerged as a potential suitor after expressing an interest in the 24-year-old attacker.

Like Liverpool, Newcastle United are believed to be considering whether to make a move for Mbeumo ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Amid the transfer speculation, Mbeumo has admitted that it is "tantalising" to be linked with some of the biggest clubs.

Speaking to L'Equipe, Mbeumo said: "I have spent five years at Brentford, at a club that has allowed me to grow and pass a milestone but yes, I would like to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs.

"It is tantalising to see some big clubs interested in me. We will see. You have to be ready for the future."

Are Liverpool right to target Mbeumo?

Having spent his career with Troyes and Brentford, Mbuemo is yet to test himself at the highest level possible, raising some doubt as to whether he could handle the pressure of playing for a club of Liverpool's stature.

However, the Cameroonian has showcased throughout his Premier League that he can be a consistent performer and trouble some of the best teams that the top flight has to offer.

Mbeumo's versatility may appeal to Liverpool after proving that he can operate on the right flank, as a support to the main striker or as the lone centre-forward.

The Brentford man would help in Liverpool's creative efforts as well as providing a goal threat of his own accord.

From the player's perspective, he would surely jump at the chance to join a Champions League club and play in Europe for the first time. body check tags ::
