Liverpool revive interest in Torino defender Perr Schuurs?

:Headline: Liverpool revive interest in Torino defender Perr Schuurs?:
Torino reportedly expect Liverpool to reignite their interest in Dutch defender Perr Schuurs, who has been the subject of a rejected €30m (£25.6m) bid from the Reds.

Liverpool have reportedly revived their interest in Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs.

The Reds were previously linked with a move for the 23-year-old in 2020 after he impressed for Ajax against Jurgen Klopp's side in the Champions League.

However, Liverpool instead moved to sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, and Schuurs left Ajax last summer to join Torino in an £8m deal.

The former Netherlands youth international quickly made a name for himself in the heart of the Torino backline, scoring one goal and setting up two more in 33 appearances across all tournaments.

Schuurs's efforts helped Torino achieve a top-half finish in Serie A, and the Dutchman was lauded for his solid individual displays throughout the campaign, leading to inevitable interest in his services.

Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and West Ham United have all been tipped to move for Schuurs this summer, but according to Tuttosport - via Sport Witness - Torino are bracing themselves for another bid from Liverpool.

The report claims that the Reds have already failed with a €30m (£25.6m) approach for the 23-year-old, and Klopp has now turned his focus to defensive reinforcements after signing midfield duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

Schuurs remains under contract with Torino until 2026 with the option of an additional 12 months, and the Italian club have apparently slapped a €40m (£34.2m) price tag onto the head of the defender.

Should a Premier League club come forward with an appropriate bid, Torino are unlikely to stand in Schuurs's way of a summer exit, especially with teams in England also able to offer him a much more lucrative salary.

Schuurs's sister Demi Schuurs is a professional tennis player and will be competing in the women's doubles competition at SW19 this week, and the Torino defender is believed to have travelled to the UK to cheer his sibling on.

At the same time, the report claims that Schuurs could make use of his time in England to hold talks with interested clubs, and Palace - the most local of the centre-back's admirers to Wimbledon - are already said to have been in touch.

Napoli have also been credited with an interest in Schuurs ahead of Kim Min-jae's transfer to Bayern Munich, while Konate is also believed to be of interest to the Italian champions.

Liverpool are not expected to entertain bids for Konate, but Klopp could still sanction a couple more defensive departures following Rhys Williams's loan move to Aberdeen.

Nat Phillips is expected to be one of the first names on the chopping block ahead of the 2023-24 season, and Feyenoord are said to be interested in a deal for the Englishman.

Joel Matip is also out of contract at the end of next season, and an extension for the Cameroonian is unlikely after he fell down the pecking order last term, so a sale could be on the cards this summer before a possible exit on a free transfer in 2024. body check tags ::
