Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reportedly sounded out Benfica over a loan deal for versatile defender Lorenzo Melgarejo.
The 22-year-old primarily operates as a left-back, but was used in a more advanced wide role by Benfica at times during last season.
Reds boss Rodgers has made an initial offer to Benfica for a season-long loan move, with a view to a permanent transfer next summer, according to The Mirror.
Rodgers wants cover for first-choice full-back Luis Enrique, but has been frustrated in his pursuit of Valencia's Aly Cissokho this summer.
Melgarejo made his international debut for Paraguay last November, which Liverpool believe will help them secure a work permit if the move goes through.
