Liverpool have expressed an interest in bringing Jordan Veretout to Anfield following a breakdown in talks between the Nantes midfielder and Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has made over 125 appearances for the Ligue 1 club and is said to be close to a France call-up ahead of Euro 2016.
According to French newspaper L'Equipe, Veretout's advisers aren't keen on a move to White Hart Lane because Spurs already have too many midfielders in their ranks.
As a result, the Reds have now reportedly emerged as the frontrunners for the player's signature, with Nantes said to be holding out for £10m.
Veretout has nine caps for France Under-21s.
