Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz has revealed that he wants to play for a Spanish club before the end of his career.

The 25-year-old made the move to Anfield from Porto in January, and he has impressed during his time with the Merseyside club, scoring 10 goals and registering eight assists in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Diaz has scored four goals and contributed three assists in 12 appearances for Liverpool this term, including three goals and two assists in the Premier League.

However, the Colombia international has been on the sidelines since October 9, having picked up a serious knee injury during the 3-2 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League.

Diaz has a contract with Jurgen Klopp's side until June 2027, but he was revealed that he wants to turn out for a La Liga club at some stage in the future.

"I would like to play for a Spanish club that has always attracted my family's attention, but it is more of a childish dream," Diaz told SoHo.

"Now I only think about lifting trophies and making history with Liverpool, which is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I am very grateful for the opportunity they have given me."

Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently revealed that his club wanted to sign Diaz from Porto earlier this year, but Liverpool 'beat them to it'.

"Liverpool beat us to it. There was a time when we were considering signing him but we still had an economic situation that we had to resolve, to reverse, and they beat us to it," Laporta told Mundo Deportivo.

"He's a great player and he belongs to Liverpool and I won't talk about this anymore but yes, I admit it, in the past, when he went from Porto to Liverpool, we had a conversation with his representative but Liverpool already had it very advanced."

Tottenham Hotspur were also believed to be in a strong position to land Diaz before Liverpool swooped in to secure his signature on a long-term deal.

The South American scored 41 goals and registered 18 assists in 125 appearances for Porto before making the move to Anfield.

Diaz's injury would have ruled him out of the 2022 World Cup, but Colombia failed to advance to the finals, missing out on the competition for the first time since 2010.

Liverpool's next competitive match is against Manchester City in the EFL Cup on December 22, although the Reds are preparing to play two friendlies against Lyon and AC Milan on December 11 and December 16 respectively. body check tags ::
