Luis Diaz's father has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur missed out on the chance to sign his son during the January transfer window as they "hesitated a lot" in the negotiations.
Spurs were strongly linked with the Colombia international's services before Liverpool swooped in to sign him from Porto on a five-year contract.
The 25-year-old made his debut for Jurgen Klopp's side against Cardiff City in the FA Cup last weekend and is in line to feature in the Premier League against Leicester City in the Premier League on Thursday.
According to Luis Manuel Diaz, Tottenham's hesitation cost them the chance to sign his son, with Liverpool moving quickly to secure his services in a deal worth an initial £37.5m.
"There were many suitors who wanted Luis's services, but he had the dream of reaching Liverpool. Because Liverpool are an elite team,' Diaz Snr told BluRadio's Blog Deportivo.
"After the first game, he told me that it was a team that works hard, complete, in which he will feel comfortable and will have the chance to play with high-performance players.'
"Tottenham was one. Roma was also left behind in the process. They hesitated a lot and let themselves be caught by Liverpool. Liverpool were faster than them, they needed him and they took him away."
Diaz, who primarily operates as a left-sided attacker, scored 41 goals and registered 19 assists in 125 appearances for Porto in all competitions. body check tags ::
