Newcastle United and Liverpool have reportedly declared their interest in Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
The 23-year-old has caught the eye during his nine appearances for the Royals this season, especially during his man-of-the-match performance in the 0-0 draw with the Reds earlier this month.
According to the Daily Mail, Brendan Rodgers is keen on the England Under-21 international, while Alan Pardew is also believed to be keeping tabs on him with speculation regarding Tim Krul's future increasing.
The Magpies' veteran keeper Steve Harper is also leaving St James' Park at the end of the season after 20 years' association with the club.
McCarthy has previously spent time on loan at Leeds United and Ipswich Town.
