Transfer window 'to shut before start of Premier League seasons'

The 2018-19 summer transfer window could reportedly close before the start of the season, with the Premier League expected to approve the major changes.

The Premier League is reportedly expected to give the green light to a proposal calling for the summer transfer window to close before the start of the season.

As it stands, clubs in England are allowed to buy and sell players until the end of August, which on this occasion is almost three weeks after the season has begun.

According to The Telegraph, the majority of representatives from the 20 Premier League clubs will vote for a new deadline to be implemented ahead of the 2018-19 season.

The new rule would prevent top-flight clubs from bringing in new faces, but overseas outfits can still poach from England's elite if their transfer window is still open.

It is believed that Watford are one of a few clubs against the idea of an earlier cut-off point, but a majority vote of more than two thirds is expected to push the proposal through.

Numerous managers have called for changes in the transfer window to be implemented, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp telling reporters today that it would have helped his team if the market was closed before last Saturday's kickoff.

The current rule means that the window will not slam shut until August 31.
