Paris Saint-Germain reportedly reignite their interest in Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes, having regretted not making a move for him in 2021.

Paris Saint-Germain have reignited their interest in Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to a report.

Les Parisiens were one of several sides battling for the Brazil international's signature during his time at Lyon, but Newcastle ultimately won the race for his services in the wake of their lucrative takeover.

Guimaraes has since blossomed into one of the leading players in his position in the Premier League, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 49 games for the Magpies.

The 25-year-old has come up with four goals and set up four more in 32 games during the current campaign, helping the Magpies reach the final of the EFL Cup, where they lost to Manchester United.

Eddie Howe's side are also in the driving seat for Champions League football, sitting fourth in the standings and three points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, who they face in Sunday's crunch clash.

Guimaraes is under contract at St James' Park for another three years, but Newcastle will be bracing themselves for bids for their star midfielder in the upcoming window.

All of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester City have been credited with an interest in the former Lyon man, but according to iG Esporte, PSG are also in the picture.

The French champions are said to admire Guimaraes and are discussing a summer approach internally, but they are yet to come forward with a formal offer.

The midfielder left Athletico Paranaense in January 2020 to join Lyon, and it did not take long for him to acclimatise to European football, leading to glances from PSG.

The capital giants were apparently considering making a move for Guimaraes before he joined Newcastle, but they failed to make a bid and are now regretting their decision.

In order to ward off interest from PSG and other top European clubs, Newcastle are said to have opened talks with Guimaraes over a new-and-improved contract last month.

PSG welcomed no fewer than four new midfielders to the Parc des Princes in 2022, signing Vitinha, Carlos Soler, Fabian Ruiz and Renato Sanches to bolster their engine room.

However, there is a consensus that Les Parisiens' summer spending spree was a failure, with only Vitinha managing to nail down a regular starting place in the 2022-23 season.

The injury-plagued Sanches has been bedevilled by numerous fitness problems since joining the club from Lille, and he is yet to complete a full 90 minutes for Christophe Galtier's side.

Sanches is alleged to have complained privately about his lack of minutes, and PSG could entertain bids for the Portugal international in the upcoming window. body check tags ::
