Liverpool have reportedly held several meetings with the representatives of Adrien Rabiot regarding a January move for the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.
The 23-year-old is to become a free agent when his contract expires in the summer and is believed to be on the radar of a number of European football's big-name clubs
Barcelona were considered the favourites to land Rabiot's signature, but the Spanish champions denied this week that an agreement has already been struck.
French outlet L'Equipe suggests that Liverpool have seen a window of opportunity and may now snap up the 23-year-old themselves.
Talks are said to be underway between the highly-rated midfielder and the Premier League leaders, with PSG keen to strike a deal while they can still generate a fee.
Rabiot has featured 14 times in Ligue 1 for the Parisians this term and a further five times in the Champions League.
