Brendan Rodgers: 'Our summer transfer window won't be like 2012'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that the summer transfer window will not be like last season's that left the squad short of numbers.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that his summer transfer targets are forming better than last year's.

The Reds loaned Andy Carroll to West Ham United without signing a replacement for the £35m striker last summer, leaving the club with Luis Suarez as their only recognised forward following an injury to Fabio Borini.

However, Rodgers believes that this coming transfer window will share no resemblance with last season's.

"There is a lot of terrific work going on behind the scenes with the scouting department getting those lists together really," Rodgers is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"We never had that in the summer and what I had to go with was not what I knew but there were some key positions we needed support in.

"What I didn't want to do was to waste the club's money. I like to be extensive and know what we are bringing in, but also we did not have the time and that was the big issue. We are much better placed now. There is great collaboration that goes on between all the departments."

Liverpool signed Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window.
