Roma have reportedly turned their attention towards the signing of Dejan Lovren from Liverpool after the Serie A club was priced out of a deal for Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweireld.
Alderweireld has been a long-term target for Roma, and would have been available for £25m last month, but is now valued at £37m after this release clause on his contract expired last month.
Lovren is free to leave Liverpool this summer after making only 13 Premier League appearances under Jurgen Klopp last season.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, new Roma boss Paulo Fonseca has not lost hope in signing Alderweireld but is now switching his focus towards Lovren.
The Croatia international, valued at around £18m by Liverpool, has reportedly been subject to interest from AC Milan this summer.
Bjorn Bezemer, who works for the agency that represents Lovren, held talks with Milan officials on Tuesday, although it remains unclear whether the defender was mentioned.
