Jordan Ayew has revealed that an agreement was in place to join Nice before he signed for Lorient late last month.
The 22-year-old attracted interest from a number of clubs in Europe after being made available for transfer by Marseille, but he has confirmed that Nice were closer than most sides to securing his services.
"I'm going to be honest - I'd given my word to Nice," Ayew told BeIN Sports. "But Nice couldn't strike an agreement with Marseille, and I didn't want to wait too long because I didn't want to miss the start of the season."
Ayew is expected to make his debut when Lorient face Monaco on Sunday evening.
