Ligue 1 leaders Montpellier have suffered a crucial 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lorient.
Montpellier started slowly and the league leaders were almost behind after 11 minutes but Jeremie Aliadiere failed to find the bottom corner with his shot.
Kevin-Monnet Paquet was the next culprit of wasting a good chance for Lorient as he failed to head past Geoffrey Jourden.
John Utaka almost made Lorient pay for their missed chances on the stroke of half time but Fabien Audard denied the former Portsmouth winger.
The second half started quietly but Montpellier were shocked in the 69th minute as Henri Bedimo turned into his own net to give Lorient the lead.
Montpellier failed to respond to the goal and were two behind just minutes later as substitute Joel Campbell collected a pass from Remi Mulumba before firing into the back of the net.
However, the visitors did manage to pull a goal back almost immediately as Olivier Giroud turned in Karim Ait-Fana's cross but Lorient held on for an unlikely victory.
