Lyon return to the top of the Ligue 1 table as braces from Alexandre Lacazette and Nabil Fekir help to hand Hubert Fournier's men a 5-1 victory over Montpellier HSC.

Alexandre Lacazette and Nabil Fekir each bagged braces to ensure that Lyon came from a goal down to beat Montpellier HSC 5-1 and return to the top of the Ligue 1 table this evening.

HSC took a surprise lead after only six minutes had been played when Bryan Dabo picked out Lucas Barrios in the box, with the striker making no mistake with a neat finish past Anthony Lopes.

Fekir sought to restore parity with a shot from the centre of the box, only to be denied by Montpellier stopper Geoffrey Jourdren down at his bottom-right corner.

The away side slowly grew dominant and they equalised when Abdelhamid El Kaoutari brought down Fakir in the box, leaving Lacazette to convert the penalty.

Hubert Fournier's men were in front not long after as Fekir made it 2-1 in the 40th minute, finishing low past Jourdren following Yoann Gourcuff's adroit pass.

HSC offered little going forward in the second half, but Barrios stood out again with a superb long-range shot that almost surprised Lopes, who saved well.

Les Gones looked to cement the victory with just under 20 minutes to play when Fekir bagged his brace, handing Gourcuff his second assist of the game.

The home side might have provided a tense finish as Paul Lasne was fouled in the Lyon box by Samuel Umtiti, but Lopes made a standout save to deny Barrios.

Lyon added another goal in injury time to send out a message to both Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille, and it came through youngster Corentin Tolisso who tucked home from close range.

The fireworks did not stop there, however, as Lacazette returned to secure his second of the night, finishing from Mohamed Yattara's cross to leave the final score at 5-1.
