The hosts had to be patient in search of an opener, but they eventually made the breakthrough courtesy of former Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham midfielder Steed Malbranque, who found the inside of the net with his strike to make it 1-0 just after the hour.
Alexandre Lacazette added Les Gones' second of the afternoon from the spot shortly after to put his side in command.
Last season's fifth-placed team were unable to add another, however, with the contest finishing 2-0 at Stade de Gerland.
