Malaga defender Weligton has been ruled out for up to two months with a tibial plateau fracture in his right leg.
The Brazilian was forced off in the second period of his side's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo at the weekend, but it was not initially considered a serious injury.
A statement from Malaga has revealed a fracture, however, which will keep the centre-back out of action for around eight weeks.
Weligton has started 14 league games for Malaga this season and has been a key contributor to their impressive start to the campaign.
