Warne looking forward to taking on Guardiola

The Millers boss is hoping for a post-game chat with his opposite number.

Rotherham manager Paul Warne is excited to get the chance to challenge himself against Pep Guardiola when his side visit Manchester City in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Millers, who are 21st in the Championship, make the daunting trip to the Etihad Stadium to take on the current champions of England in the third round and Warne will be opposite a man he describes as the "best out there".

The pair recently met at an awards dinner in Manchester, where Warne asked for a selfie, and he hopes to get the opportunity to talk to the Spaniard in more detail after the game.

"For me to stand there with my mates a few yards from Guardiola will be odd," the Millers boss said.

"I wonder whether he shouts the same things to his players as me, that will be interesting. And he has a little bit of a temper, you wouldn't want to get in the way of that scarf!

"He is some guy and the way his team plays has pressure on every other manager in the country because fans turn up and want their team to play like that. The way they play football, they are some team.

"It'd be nice to talk to him afterwards, but I like talking to all managers after a game, I won't be like a lovesick puppy looking at him.

"I won't hang around like a superfan, if they ask us in then great, if they don't then I won't be offended."

Warne is a self-confessed humanist and his management style is focused on getting the best out of his players from a man-management perspective.

He bought all of his players a self-help book for Christmas, so appreciates how Guardiola has gone about improving and testing himself.

"That is why Pep is so good, he had this playing career, he went into management, he had it in absolute lockdown and then challenged himself, took a sabbatical and came back.

"That is why he is the best out there, he could easily be on a boat in Monaco so to put himself through this all of the time, he has some drive.

"I am not in awe of that, but I am impressed by it. Management is stressful for me, so how stressful for him it is at Man City must be a joke."
