Sergio Aguero – the highs and lows

:Headline: Sergio Aguero – the highs and lows: ID:335937: from db_amp
The Argentinian could complete a decade of service to Manchester City in 2021.

Sergio Aguero has signed a one-year contract extension at Manchester City that commits him to the reigning Premier League champions until 2021.

The Argentinian has contributed to a number of City's memorable moments in recent years although he has had a couple of setbacks along the way.

Here, Press Association Sport charts some of the highs and lows of Aguero's career.

High

Sergio Aguero bagged a brace on his City debut (Martin Rickett/PA)

Moves to City from Atletico Madrid in July 2011 in a deal reported to be worth £38million. He begins his record-breaking career at the club with a brace against Swansea.

High

Aguero scored one of the Premier League's most memorable goals to help his side to the title in 2012 (Peter Byrne/PA)

Impressive in his debut season in the north-west but saves his best for last, pouncing deep into stoppage-time as City snatch Premier League title glory from rivals Manchester United in the most dramatic fashion.

High

Aguero had his fair share of injury problems in 2013-14 but still helped City to the league title (Lynne Cameron/PA)

Several injuries conspire to keep him on the sidelines for a number of weeks during the 2013-14 season but Aguero still notches 28 goals in 34 appearances as City record their second league title in three seasons.

Low

Lionel Messi, left, and Aguero fail to inspire Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final (Mike Egerton/PA)

Fails to break his World Cup duck and starts the final on the bench, coming on in the second half but making little impact, as Argentina are beaten by Germany after extra-time.

High

Aguero scored a stunning hat-trick against Bayern Munich (Tim Goode/PA)

Moves on from his World Cup woe by signing a five-year contract in August 2014. A few months later he underlines his world-class calibre with a sensational hat-trick against Bayern Munich before registering his 100th goal for City – albeit his double coming in a 4-2 loss to United in April 2015. While City finish runners-up to Chelsea that season, Aguero captures the Golden Boot after bagging 26 league goals.

Low

Aguero was given his marching orders following this rash challenge on David Luiz (Martin Rickett/PA)

A long-running feud with David Luiz continues after Aguero is given his marching orders and a four-game ban for a reckless challenge on the Brazilian in City's 3-1 loss to Chelsea in December 2016.

Low

Fractures a rib after being involved in a car accident in Amsterdam in September 2017, his taxi hitting a lamp post while he was being driven to the airport after attending the concert of Colombian singer Maluma on his day off. City boss Pep Guardiola refuses to criticise his star striker, saying: "I'm not the police."

High

Aguero won his third Premier League title at City last season (Martin Rickett/PA)

Soon back in City's good graces after scoring against Napoli in the Champions League, his 178th goal for the club and one that sees him overtake Eric Brook's long-standing tally. He reaches the 30-goal barrier in all competitions in 2017-18, with 21 in the league as City record their first title under Guardiola.

Low

Scores his first ever World Cup goal in the opening game of the 2018 edition against Iceland but another dispiriting campaign ensues for him and Argentina, who are eliminated by France in the last 16.

High

Sergio Aguero made it 200 goals for City in a Community Shield win over Chelsea (Mike Egerton/PA)

Scores his 200th goal for City in a Community Shield win over Chelsea in August 2018.
