Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that David Silva will be out for up to three weeks with a hamstring problem.
The Spanish playmaker suffered the injury in the goalless first leg of their Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid on Tuesday.
Silva will now miss the return leg in his homeland and the injury could end his season depending on if City get to the final.
"David Silva has a small hamstring injury so he will not be fit for this week [against Southampton]. He needs two or three weeks to recover," Pellegrini told reporters.
Midfielder Yaya Toure is back in training after a thigh injury but will not feature this weekend, while winger Samir Nasri has recovered from a muscle problem and will be in the squad at St Mary's.
