Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has admitted that he wants to try to get back into the England squad.
The 31-year-old missed out on Euro 2012 due to injury and only returned to action last month, causing him to miss out on selection for the Three Lions' World Cup qualifiers with San Marino and Poland this month.
However, the former Aston Villa skipper understands why he has been left out of the party and is keen to force his way back into Roy Hodgson's plans.
"I have not spoken to the England manager, but I understand why I am not in it. My season hasn't really got going, and I am still getting over the injury," said Barry.
"I am hopeful that if I can get a run in the team, and get some games together, I will be in the next squad.
"I am obviously disappointed because I want to play for my country but I am not ready to retire yet, and will just keep working hard. I am not going to say too much. I just want to work hard to get back."
Barry has 53 England caps to his name.
