Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has paid tribute to Sergio Aguero after he levelled Eric Brook's long-standing record of 177 goals for the club.
Aguero brought up the milestone goal from the penalty spot to send City on their way to a 3-0 win over Burnley this afternoon, although he was thwarted in his attempts to take the record outright before being brought off.
Guardiola is confident that it is only a matter of time before the Argentine does set a new landmark, though, and the City boss talked up the impending achievement.
"It was so important today to equal the record as soon as possible. He is going to break it and it will be something special," he told reporters.
"It is so important for him to be the top scorer in the whole history of the club. We are happy to have that moment with him."
City also equalled a club record with an 11th consecutive win across all competitions, taking them five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
