Pep Guardiola plays down Jose Mourinho rivalry

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists that the focus will be on both sets of players and not the two managers in the Manchester derby.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has insisted that the focus will be on both sets of players and not the two managers in this weekend's Manchester derby against Manchester United.

Saturday's clash at Old Trafford will see Guardiola and Jose Mourinho lock horns once again, and Guardiola will enter the match having only lost three of his 16 meetings with the Man United boss.

The Spaniard, however, has said that matters on the pitch will take centre stage rather than the side-story of the two managers, which has been discussed at length in the build-up to the derby.

"At the end of the day it's my players play against their players, and the end of the day that's what's important. There were a lot of games between me and him. He wanted to win, and I wanted to win. It's part of our job," Guardiola told Sky Sports News.

"I have respect for my colleagues, I try to have a good relationship with them, and of course they want to win, and sometimes you make actions in the game in the moment and I understand that. I come here to be coach of Manchester City and train these players, that's the reason I am here."

Both Man City and Man United have won their opening three Premier League games this season.
