Joe Hart has insisted that he had the backing of Manuel Pellegrini after taking a penalty during a shootout in an International Champions Cup match.
The Manchester City goalkeeper scored the fifth penalty in the shootout against Roma in the pre-season tournament, before pulling off two saves to secure the win for the Premier League side.
The England international told the club's website: "I told the manager last year when we lost two penalty shootouts and some of them were rubbish. I made sure that he knew that I put myself forward and he backed me.
"I'm fed up of all this players thinking they can be clever and just place it or roll it down the middle, that's how you take a penalty."
Man City will next face Real Madrid at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.
