Manchester City keeper Joe Hart reveals that he almost signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers before moving to the Premier League outfit.

Manchester City keeper Joe Hart has revealed that he was once close to signing for Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 29-year-old - currently on loan at Serie A outfit Torino - joined City from Shrewsbury Town in 2006 but has admitted that his career could have taken a different path.

"When I was 10 or 11 I was playing for Shrewsbury, but had a bit of a meltdown for one of the games, I said 'dad I don't want to do this'," Hart told Sky Sports News. "It was dead regimented, I wasn't about to play with my friends in Sunday League, you couldn't do this or that. I went and told the coach it wasn't for me. Dave Timmins the goalkeeping coach, Mr Shrewsbury, said if I ever wanted to come back it was open for me.

"I played in goal for my county and went on trial at Wolves. I got strung along and did a 13-week trial. That got binned and then at about 14 I was playing Sunday League, we had to line the pitch up and walk across it to check for glass and dog mess, stuff like that, it was a bad day and my dad said listen I love you but I can't watch this anymore.

"I said shall we try the Shrewsbury thing? I got involved and Dave really pushed me. At 14 I was training with the first team in the Easter holidays."

Hart is expected to be sold next summer, with City's Premier League rivals Liverpool reported as a potential destination.
