Manchester City's John Stones "flattered" by £47m price tag

John Stones says that his performances will not be affected by the hefty sum Manchester City paid Everton to sign him as he had no say in the transfer fee.

John Stones has confessed that he is "flattered" by the large amount of money Manchester City spent to sign him from Everton, but will not let it affect his performances.

The England international joined the Citizens in a £47m deal last week following 12 months of uncertainty surrounding his future at Goodison Park.

Having now finally secured a move to an established title-challenging side, and made his debut in the 2-1 win over Sunderland at the weekend, Stones admits that he is still trying to take it all in.

"It's not down to me, the two clubs agree the fee and it gets put on your head, but it's nothing to do with me," he told reporters. "But I'm flattered to be up there with how much they paid for me.

"It's a great new chapter for me, one I am going to relish. Hopefully I will be here for a while and keep improving, enjoying my game, winning games, and become a winner.

"I can't stop smiling. Making my debut on Saturday was a great experience - the stadium, the fans, the little factors that make it a great day, and to top it off we got the win."

Stones is expected to start City's opening European fixture of the campaign on Tuesday evening, as they take on Steaua Bucuresti in a Champions League playoff tie in Romania.
