Manchester City's highly-rated youth player Courtney Meppen-Walter has been arrested after he was involved in a car crash that killed two and left a teenager fighting for his life.
The 18-year-old was held by police after a horrific smash on Bury New Road in Manchester.
A 37-year-old woman and her 32-year-old brother were killed in the crash, while a teenage boy - the woman's son - also suffered life-threatening injuries. Following reports of a collision between a silver Mercedes and a red Nissan Micra, police were called to the scene at 10.15pm.
The man, who was driving, and the woman, in the passenger seat, had sustained fatal injuries.
Two teenage boys, both brothers aged 16 and 17, were taken to Salford Royal with serious head injuries. One is reported to be stable, though the other is 'very poorly'.
Meppen-Walter, who was driving the Mercedes, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A 19-year-old man, who was driving a grey Volkswagen Golf, was also arrested on the same charges.
The youngster has not made any appearances for City's first team but has been a regular for England under-17s.
Police have said that both men will remain in custody for questioning.
