Pep Guardiola: 'I want to prove myself in England'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reveals that he moved to the Premier League in order to prove himself in England.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that he is desperate to prove himself in England.

The Spaniard won plenty of plaudits for his playing style during trophy-laden spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but there have been questions over whether a similar approach will work in the Premier League.

Guardiola acknowledged that he may have to adapt in some circumstances, but is eager to show that he is capable of doing so.

"I'm here to prove myself and prove I can play [the same way]. At Barcelona I had absolutely everything, including the best player ever. At Bayern Munich they had lots of things to be a success. Now I'm here and it felt like the right moment to come here," he told reporters.

"There are managers who have more experience than me. We're going to try and be more consistent in our game. Maybe we're not going to win every day. But we are going to try. What we want is so, so simple. When we have the ball move we want them to move it as quick as possible and create as many chances as possible.

"I never played on a Boxing Day. I have never been to a stadium where it is windy and freezing and the pitch is not good. It's a target for me. I want to prove myself here. Hopefully for everybody the best players can come here.

"The managers and coaches speak a lot, every few days, but I don't know why the other coaches chose to come to England. In Champions League with Barcelona and Bayern Munich we came to England a lot and we always thought 'wow'. It's a target for me and a personal ambition of mine to prove myself here."

Guardiola's first competitive match in charge of City will come at home to Sunderland on Saturday, August 13.
