Manchester City have announced that manager Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract until the summer of 2025.

The 51-year-old, who was due to see his previous deal expire at the end of the season, has been at the helm for the last six-and-a-half years and is the Citizens' second-longest serving manager after Les McDowall between 1950 and 1963.

Guardiola's extension has put an end to recent speculation about his future at the club, and his new deal will take him to nine seasons in charge of the reigning Premier League champions.

The Spaniard arrived at the Etihad Stadium as one of world's most renowned managers following successful stints at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

After a brief period of transition, Guardiola has since made his mark at Man City and has enjoyed a hugely successful trophy-laden spell with the club, winning a total of 11 trophies including four of the last five Premier League titles.

The Catalan-born coach has also led City to four EFL Cups, one FA Cup, two Community Shields and one Champions League final, losing the latter to Chelsea in May last year.

Guardiola has won 271 of his 374 games in charge of the Citizens across all competitions, boasting an impressive win percentage of 72.4%, and his teams have scored at remarkable total of 921 goals during his tenure at an average of 2.46 goals per game.

Speaking to Man City's official website after extending his contract, Guardiola said: "I am so pleased to be staying at Manchester City for another two years.

"I can't say thank you enough to everyone at the club for trusting me. I am happy and comfortable here. I have everything I need to do my job as best as possible.

"I know the next chapter of this club will be amazing for the next decade. It happened over the last ten years, and it will happen in the next ten years because this club is so stable.

"From day one I felt something special being here. I cannot be in a better place. I still have the feeling there is more we can achieve together and that is why I want to stay and continue fighting for trophies."

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak added: "I am delighted that Pep's journey with Manchester City Football Club will continue.

"He has already contributed so much to the success and fabric of this organisation, and it's exciting to think what might be possible given the energy, hunger and ambition that he clearly still has.

"Under his very special leadership our first team has accomplished so much, whilst continuously playing, and constantly evolving, a City style of football that is admired the world over. Like every City fan, I am looking forward to what lies ahead."

Guardiola is the second-longest serving manager in the Premier League, behind only Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, and the fifth-longest serving coach in the top four tiers of English football.

Man City currently second in the Premier League table, five points behind Mikel Arteta's Arsenal at the summit, while the Citizens are also in the last 16 of the Champions League and the fourth round of the EFL Cup, with a home encounter against Liverpool in the latter competition up next for Guardiola's side on December 22 after the World Cup. body check tags ::
