Manchester City have been hit with a fine of just over £2m for breaching Premier League rule L.33 on 22 separate occasions.

The breaches relate to kickoff and restart obligations, and Man City have accepted their wrongdoing, with the issue occurring on eight occasions during the 2022-23 campaign and 14 times in 2023-24.

The delays are said to have been between one minute and two minutes 45 seconds, with the fines for each breach ranging between £10,000 and £200,000.

"The Premier League and Manchester City FC have entered into a sanction agreement after the club accepted it had breached Premier League Rule L.33 relating to kick-off and re-start obligations," read a statement from the Premier League.

"The breaches relate to a number of Premier League matches during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

"Rules relating to kick-offs and re-starts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs.

"It also ensures the broadcast of all 380 League matches around the world is kept to schedule.

"As required by the Premier League Rules, the sanction agreement has been ratified by three members of the Independent Judicial Panel."

According to the Manchester Evening News, Man City have apologised for their actions, but the Citizens are yet to release a statement.

Man City, who are still facing 115 charges for alleged breach of financial rules, are currently in the United States on their pre-season tour. body check tags ::
