Samir Nasri scores late on to seal a 2-2 draw for Manchester City in their Premier League match with Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium.

A late goal from Samir Nasri has given Manchester City a 2-2 draw with Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium this evening.

Fernandinho put the home side ahead less than two minutes into the match, firing in from a Sergio Aguero delivery into the box.

John O'Shea had a chance to level the scores just four minutes later, but the Sunderland captain could only head wide.

Fernandinho almost added his second when the ball fell to him from a Vito Mannone save, but his volley was always rising.

Stevan Jovetic had a chance to extend City's lead after the break, rounding a defender before firing the ball towards the goal, but Mannone was able to claim it.

However, the Black Cats were able to get back on level terms with just over 15 minutes left to play, with Connor Wickham tapping in from a cross to claim his first Premier League goal of the season.

Jovetic continued to look for a goal, having replaced Aguero early in the second half, but his 25-yard effort went wide of the left post.

Sunderland made City pay for their missed chances in the 83rd minute when Wickham smashed the ball past Joe Hart for his second of the night, putting the visitors ahead with just seven minutes still to play.

The home side managed to rescue a point late on though when Nasri rifled the ball past Mannone to level the scores.

Nasri could have added a winner at the start of stoppage time, but his effort from a similar position to where his goal came from finished in the stands, while James Milner also headed behind in the closing moments of the match.

The draw leaves City third in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Liverpool, while Sunderland stay bottom, six points from safety.
