Substitute Ji Dong-Won scores a stoppage-time winner for Sunderland over league leaders Manchester City.

Ji Dong-Won came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner for Sunderland against league leaders Manchester City this afternoon.

The result means City failed to take full advantage of Manchester United's loss to Blackburn Rovers yesterday afternoon, but still remain top of the table on goal difference.

It was hosts Sunderland who arguably created the game's two best chances prior to the winning goal, one of which came in the third minute. Stephane Sessegnon threaded a pass through for Nicklas Bendtner but the Danish international's effort was smothered by City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The visitors enjoyed large spells in possession, but found goalscoring chances hard to come by before the break. Their best opportunity fell to Edin Dzeko, who saw his close-range effort blocked by Simon Mignolet in the home goal.

After the restart City substitute Sergio Aguero dragged an effort wide of goal, while Dzeko shot over when well placed.

Up the other end, Sessegnon found himself one-on-one with Hart but he curled his effort beyond the upright.

Mancini introduced David Silva into the match as a way of trying to claim all three points and it was his 88th-minute shot which forced Mignolet into a diving save. The rebound fell to Micah Richards, whose downward header bounced to safety off the crossbar.

Mignolet again denied Silva in stoppage time as Martin O'Neill's Black Cats looked to have held out for a share of the spoils.

However, they went one better in the third minute of time added on when Sessegnon found Dong-Won, who rounded Hart before shooting into an empty net.
