Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that the club are set to open contract talks with Lionel Messi "in the next couple of months".
The 29-year-old has two years to run on his current deal at Camp Nou, with a number of clubs including Manchester City reportedly monitoring his situation.
"We will have the negotiations with Messi in the next couple of months," Bartomeu told The Telegraph.
"He is still only 29. And if you see him playing it seems like he is one of our very young players.
"Leo Messi reinvented himself two years ago and changed the way he played and he is a better player now than he was then, a much better player."
Messi has been at Barca since 2001, joining the Blaugrana as a youth player and going on to become an integral part of the first team.
