Barcelona have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the signing of Spanish forward Ferran Torres.

The 21-year-old will move to Camp Nou in the January transfer window and he has agreed to sign a five-year contract until June 2027, which includes a €1bn (£842m) release clause.

Barca are believed to have agreed an initial €55m (£46.3m) fee to sign Torres with a further €10m (£8.4m) in add-ons, and the forward will become the first signing since the appointment of head coach Xavi.

A statement from Barcelona's official website reads: "FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Ferran Torres.

"The player has signed a contract for the next five seasons, until 30 June 2027, and his buyout clause has been set at 1,000 million euros.

"On Monday 3 January, from 11.00am CET, the player's presentation as a new member of the FC Barcelona first team squad will take place in a event preceding the open doors training session at 12.00pm CET at Camp Nou.

"Following the training session, Ferran Torres will appear before the media in a remote press conference at the Ricard Maxenchs press room."

Manchester City have also confirmed the departure of Torres, who leaves the Etihad Stadium after 16 months with the Citizens, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists in 43 appearances.

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said on the club's official website: "Ferran should be proud of what he has achieved here at Manchester City.

"Last season was his first time in a new country, but he adapted well. He always gave 100%, worked hard for the team and scored goals which helped us win trophies.

"Injury unfortunately prevented him from playing more games this season, but Ferran is a player we have all enjoyed working with and we wish him all the best at Barcelona and for the rest of his career."

Torres, who has been recovering from a fractured foot, made his final appearance for City in September when he scored the fourth goal in their 6-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers in the League Cup.

The Spain international – who has recently returned to individual training – will seemingly replace former Man City striker Sergio Aguero at Camp Nou, who was forced to retire from football in December, just five months after joining Barca, due to a heart condition.
