Manchester City have reportedly identified Ross Barkley as a possible replacement for Yaya Toure should the Ivorian midfielder leave the club in the near future.
Reports earlier this summer suggested that Toure could be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium after claims that he felt he was disrespected by the club, but relations are believed to have improved since then.
However, City officials are concerned that Toure may still attempt to force through a transfer, and would consider approaching Everton over a move for Barkley if they lose their battle to keep the former Barcelona midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.
The Premier League champions are reported to have held an interest in Barkley for a number of months, but Everton are desperate to keep the 20-year-old, who appeared for England at this summer's World Cup.
Toure is expected to hold talks with club officials to discuss the speculation on the tour of the USA next week.
