Bayern Munich have reportedly moved past Manchester City in the race to sign Juventus defender Joao Cancelo in this summer's transfer window.
City are said to have identified Cancelo as the perfect player to challenge Kyle Walker for the starting position at right-back during the 2019-20 campaign.
Cancelo made 34 appearances during a successful 2018-19 season at Juve, but it has been claimed that new Old Lady boss Maurizio Sarri is prepared to sell the Portugal international for tactical reasons.
The Premier League champions were thought to be in a strong position to land the 25-year-old this summer.
However, according to Correire dello Sport, Juve do not want Danilo as part of the deal, which has seen talks with Pep Guardiola's side stall and consequently opened the door for Bayern.
The German champions have already spent big on improving their defensive unit this summer, with Benjamin Pavard arriving from Stuttgart and Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid.
