Manchester City have announced that Bernardo Silva has signed a new three-year contract, keeping him tied to the club until the summer of 2026.

The 29-year-old has been the subject of much speculation throughout the summer transfer window, as the playmaker was believed to be keen to seek pastures new.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal have all been credited with an interest in Bernardo, but the Citizens were unwilling to sell the Portuguese star for a fee below their £75m valuation.

Bennardo was initially under contract at the Etihad Stadium until June 2025, but with a summer transfer failing to materialise, the playmaker has decided to commit his future to the treble winners by putting pen to paper on a contract extension until the summer of 2026.

"I've had six incredible years at Manchester City and I'm delighted to extend my time here," Bernardo told mancity.com. "Winning the treble last season was extremely special and it's exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion.

"Success makes you want even more, and this club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning. I love the manager (Pep Guardiola), my teammates and the fans and hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years."

Director of football Txiki Begiristain added: "Bernardo has been exceptional during his time at the Etihad, so we're delighted that he has signed a contract extension with the club.

"His quality and technical ability is fantastic - and alongside his hard work and professionalism, he has become one of the best players in the world.

"Bernardo was so important in our treble-winning season and we are sure he can help deliver even more trophies in the next few years."

Bernardo has established himself as a key cog in Guardiola's side since joining Man City from Monaco in 2017, scoring 55 goals and registering 59 assists in 308 appearances across all competitions, including seven goals and eight assists in 55 games last season.

The Portugal international has won a total of 14 trophies with the Citizens, while he was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2018-19 and Champions League Team of the Season in 2022-23.

After winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League last season, as well as the UEFA Super Cup this term, Bernardo is keen to create more history on the blue side of Manchester and win an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title, adding: "When you think that no-one ever did it before, if you do it, it always makes you feel a bit more special in terms of we created something in history.

"And if we do it, it's not going to be easy for anyone else to do it again, because this country, the number of teams that fight for this title every year is just ridiculous. It doesn't happen anywhere else. And we're very motivated to achieve that.

"We heard that four in a row in the Premier League was never done before, so we want to try that because it's so tough. People now, they take it for granted because we won five in six. But it's so, so tough every year.

"And if you guys remember two of those titles were just a difference of one point and then the last game scoring [late on]. I remember the Aston Villa game (in the last game of 2022-23) when we were losing 2-0, in the minute 65 or 70. I don't remember.

"So, it's not easy to win it. And we're going to try and keep making history and putting the name of this team as one of the best ever of course. That means something for us."

Bernardo has missed Man City's last two games in all competitions of this season due to illness, but he could be in contention to return to the matchday squad for Sunday's Premier League trip to Sheffield United. body check tags ::
