Crystal Palace have reportedly registered an interest in Flamengo winger Matheus Franca.
Since Patrick Vieira's arrival at Selhurst Park ahead of 2021-22, Palace have placed somewhat of an emphasis on attracting young players to the club.
The likes of Marc Guehi, Michael Olise, Luke Plange, Malcolm Ebiowei and Chris Richards - all aged 22 or below - have been brought in by the Frenchman.
Although some of those five players are currently not playing regular football for the Eagles, the new strategy of the London outfit has been set out.
However, it now appears that Palace are now scouring the market in South America, looking to make a statement and find value for money in equal measure.
According to the Daily Mail, Palace have emerged as admirers for highly-regarded teenager Franca.
While the 18-year-old has been providing with regular outings in the Flamengo senior side, the prospect has really caught the eye since October with three goals.
Two of those strikes came in crucial 2-1 victories over Cuiaba and America MG, helping ensure that Flamengo still finished in fifth position in the Brasileiro standings despite a poor end to the season.
Franca, who can play across the forward line, possesses a contract at the Maracana until 2027, leaving Flamengo in an extremely strong position with regards to his future.
Nevertheless, it is claimed that Palace have indicated to Flamengo that they are willing to put together a proposal worth £15m plus a sell-on clause.
However, Flamengo have already moved to insert an £87m release clause in the player's contract, realistically putting Palace in a position where they would need to significantly increase their bid.
Furthermore, the report adds that Manchester City and Real Madrid are also monitoring any developments with Franca's future ahead of a potential approach.
Franca is yet to make the breakthrough on the international scene with his only outings for Brazil coming at Under-16 level. body check tags ::
