Joleon Lescott admits that he could leave Manchester City after failing to secure first-team football.

Joleon Lescott has revealed that he does not know if he will still be a Manchester City player next season.

The defender's contract runs out next summer and Lescott has confirmed that the club have yet to open discussions regarding an extension.

As such, the former Everton player says that he could be playing for a future away from the Etihad Stadium, although his first choice is to stay with the club.

"I want to stay. That's the main thing. But the club have not approached me yet, so I don't know what the situation is with them," he told The Mirror.

"If I'm playing for my future here, then great. If I'm playing for it elsewhere, then so be it. I just know that every time I'm out there, I have to perform at a level where top clubs would be interested in signing me."

However, Lescott says that depending on the circumstances his departure could be accelerated to the January transfer window.

"It depends on what the club wants and what opportunities there are for me in January. I'm not just going to leave a club like this for the sake of it, but at the end of the season I would have to," he added.

Lescott signed for City from Everton in 2009 and has gone on to win the Premier League and FA Cup.
