Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier next year.
The 22-year-old has been with Lille since 2014, progressing through the youth team at the club before making his first-team debut in 2021, and he has since represented Les Dogues on 94 occasions in all competitions.
Chevalier, who is a France Under-23s international, has kept 37 clean sheets in his 94 outings for Lille, including six shut-outs in 15 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign.
The goalkeeper has not missed a single minute of Lille's 2024-25 season to date, including their three games in the league phase of the Champions League against Sporting Lisbon, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
There has recently been speculation surrounding Chevalier's future, with Manchester City and Newcastle United both believed to be interested in signing him next year, but according to Relevo, there is also firm interest from Barcelona.
Barcelona 'interested in Lille goalkeeper Chevalier'
The report claims that Inaki Pena is likely to leave Barcelona next summer, while Wojciech Szczesny only has a contract with the Catalan giants until next June, and he is unlikely to sign an extension.
Pena is currently Barcelona's number one goalkeeper due to the fact that Marc-Andre ter Stegen is out with a serious knee injury, with the German set to be missing for the remainder of the campaign.
Szczesny has recently arrived to provide support and competition for Pena, but the experienced goalkeeper is yet to make his debut and is again set to be on the bench against Real Madrid on Saturday night.
Barcelona are therefore expected to be in the market for another goalkeeper in 2025, and Chevalier is allegedly viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Ter Stegen, who will be 33 by the time that he plays for Barcelona again.
Would Chevalier be a good fit for Barcelona?
Chevalier is believed to be available for around 20m (£16.7m), which makes him a bargain in the current market, and he has proven himself at the highest level this season, excelling against Real Madrid and Atletico in the Champions League.
Porto's Diogo Costa is also said to be admired by Barcelona, but he is likely to be too expensive, as the Catalan outfit will not be able to spend big on a new goalkeeper next summer.
Ter Stegen is again expected to be Barcelona's number one for the 2025-26 campaign, providing that there are no setbacks in his recovery from his serious knee injury, so Chevalier could learn from the experienced goalkeeper for a season or two with a view to eventually replacing the German between the sticks. body check tags ::
