Manchester City have announced the signing of midfielder Fernando after agreeing a £12m fee with Porto yesterday.
The 26-year-old has become the Premier League champions' second summer signing following the arrival of Bacary Sagna from Arsenal on a free transfer earlier this month.
The midfielder was close to moving to the Etihad Stadium in January alongside teammate Eliaquim Mangala, but a last-minute deal was unable to be agreed.
"I am so happy to finally be joining Manchester City," Fernando told the club's official website. "I know there was talk of me possibly signing last January so I am delighted that the deal has now been done and that I am a City player.
"I'm looking forward to meeting my new teammates and helping City to defend the title. It is a very exciting time to be part of this football club and I cannot wait to play in the Premier League.
"City fans can be assured I will give my all every time I play and I'm looking forward to many happy years in Manchester."
Fernando, who will wear the number six shirt next season, will join up with his new teammates for pre-season training in two weeks' time.
