Manchester City have reportedly received a boost in their efforts to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.
The England international penned a new long-term contract at the West Midlands outfit earlier in the season, a development which seemingly put his club in a stronger position regarding his future.
However, according to Football Insider, the playmaker insisted on a release clause being inserted in his fresh deal at Villa Park.
The report claims that City will now consider activating that option during the next transfer window.
Although City will require a replacement for Sergio Aguero, it is suggested that Grealish will become Pep Guardiola's number-one target.
The 25-year-old has contributed six goals and 10 assists from his 22 appearances in the Premier League this season.
