Manchester City have completed the signing of left-back Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht for a fee believed to be around £11m.
The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at the Etihad Stadium and will wear the No.21 shirt, famously worn by club legend David Silva between 2010 and 2020.
Gomez becomes Pep Guardiola's fourth signing of the summer window following the arrivals of Erling Braut Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega.
Speaking to Man City's official website on his arrival at the club, Gomez said: "I am incredibly proud and happy to have joined Manchester City.
"City are the best team in England and in Pep Guardiola I have a chance to learn and develop under the most outstanding manager in world football.
"To be able to be part of this club is a dream come true for me and something any young player would aspire to.
"The number of trophies City have won over the past few years has been incredible and the style of football the team plays under Pep is the most exciting in Europe. Playing for and being guided by Pep and his coaches is going to be very special.
"I've heard so much about the City fans and how passionate they are, so I can't wait to get started and to try and help the club achieve even more."
Director of football Txiki Begiristain added: "We are delighted to be able to welcome Sergio to Manchester City. He is a very exciting young talent.
"Sergio's development in recent seasons has been very impressive – he is an accomplished defender with great potential.
"Over the past year, he has gained excellent experience playing in the Belgian League and in Europe with Anderlecht.
"We're sure that he will bring additional quality to our squad both in defence and going forward and that he will only continue to develop and improve playing under Pep and his coaches."
Born in Catalonia, Gomez joined Barcelona's La Masia academy in 2010 while Guardiola was in charge of the senior team, and he spent eight years with the youth side before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2018.
The Spain Under-21 international then returned to his homeland and joined Huesca for a two-year loan spell between 2019 and 2021, making 68 appearances across all competitions.
His performances with the Spanish side caught the eye of Man City legend Vincent Kompany during his time in charge of Anderlecht, who signed the attack-minded left-back last summer.
Gomez was a standout performer for the Belgian giants last season, recording seven goals and 15 assists in 49 appearances, and he was voted the club's Player of the Year.
The left-back – who was targeted by the Citizens following the sale of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal – will now provide competition for Joao Cancelo at the Etihad Stadium, and he could make his debut for the Premier League champions in Sunday's clash away at Newcastle United. body check tags ::
