Brentford have reportedly failed in their attempts to sign Manchester City defender Ryan McGivern.
The 22-year-old, whose only Citizens appearance to date came as a substitute during the 5-0 win over Sunderland in April 2011, spent the majority of last season on loan at Bristol City.
According to Sky Sports News, Brentford were keen to acquire the left-back on a permanent basis but the League One club could not agree a fee with the Premier League champions.
It is also believed that the player has refused to join the Bees on loan.
Brentford begin their League campaign with an away match against Bury on Saturday.
