Real Madrid are reportedly still interested in securing the services of Erling Haaland in 2024 after being made aware of the release clause in the Norwegian's contract with Manchester City.
Los Blancos have been monitoring the 23-year-old for several years during his time at Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.
Haaland had a record-breaking debut season under Pep Guardiola in 2022-23 and played a key role in helping the Citizens win the treble.
According to a report from Spanish outlet AS via Sport Witness, Real Madrid have now been made aware of the Premier League Golden Boot winner's release clause, which is believed to be in the region of £171.6m and will become active next year.
However, the report adds that the value of the release clause is set to decrease in every transfer window beyond 2024 until the contract expires in 2027.
It is understood that while Los Blancos have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe, certain members of the club's leadership would prefer the acquisition of a more traditional number nine, and Haaland tops the list of possible candidates.
Haaland broke the Premier League goalscoring record last season with 36 goals, beating Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who set the previous record in 42-match seasons.
The Norwegian forward also broke the record for the most goals in one season in all competitions by a Premier League player (52), surpassing Mohamed Salah and Ruud van Nistelrooy's 44-goal tally in previous seasons. body check tags ::
