Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal says that Manchester City midfielder Rodri "would be perfect" for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has said that his Spain teammate Rodri "would be perfect" for Los Blancos but conceded that a move for the Manchester City midfielder is unlikely.

Rodri has been a driving force for Spain at Euro 2024, with the 28-year-old playing a key role in La Roja reaching the final of the competition, which takes place on Sunday against England.

The midfielder entered this summer's European Championship off the back of another excellent season for Man City, scoring nine goals and registering 14 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.

Rodri has a contract with the Premier League champions until June 2027 and is arguably the club's most important player, even ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne.

However, Carvajal has said that he has spoken to his Spain teammate about a possible move to Bernabeu, claiming that he "would be perfect" for the European champions.

Carvajal wants Rodri to move to Real Madrid

"Without a doubt, I'd want him at Real Madrid. I tell him every day to leave Manchester, there is no sun there, to come to Madrid because we need him. He tells me he has a contract... but he would be perfect for us," Carvajal said in an interview with El Partidazo de COPE.

Rodri was in Atletico Madrid's youth system between 2007 and 2013 before moving to Villarreal, and he progressed to first-team level with the Yellow Submarine in 2015.

The midfielder made 84 appearances for Villarreal ahead of a return to Atletico, turning out for the capital outfit on 47 occasions in 2018-19 before moving to Man City.

Rodri has made 257 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions, scoring 26 goals and registering 30 assists in the process.

Is a Real Madrid move for Rodri a possibility?

Nothing is impossible when Real Madrid are involved, with the Spanish giants viewed by many to be the biggest club in world football.

Even if he does not admit it, a switch to Los Blancos is likely to heavily appeal to Rodri, especially at this stage of his career, as he has won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one EFL Cup and the Champions League during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Real Madrid will have to convince Man City to sell, and the English champions are unlikely to be prepared to let him leave unless a world-record offer is submitted.

Rodri is valued by transfermarkt at €120m (£101m), which is probably fair considering his importance, as there is an argument that he is the outstanding central midfielder in world football.

Toni Kroos has retired this summer, while Luka Modric is expected to leave next year, so a new midfielder is expected to arrive at Bernabeu in 2025, and a high-profile move for Rodri simply cannot be ruled out. body check tags ::
