Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku backtracks on comments where he had accused some teammates of "hiding" in their Champions League exit to Sevilla.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has insisted that he did not intend to criticise his teammates in the wake of their shock Champions League exit to Sevilla last night.

The Spanish outfit secured a memorable victory over Jose Mourinho's side thanks to a late brace from substitute Wissam Ben Yedder, sending United out of the competition at the last-16 stage.

Speaking after the final whistle, Lukaku, who did manage to pull one back, told BT Sport: "Some things were flawed with some players, some players were hiding."

Taking to his Instagram account later, however, the Belgian insisted that his comments were misinterpreted and he meant that some of his teammates were literally hiding their faces in the dressing room following the defeat.

"Never will i criticise my teammates! Hiding your face when you're upset in the dressing room is normal... The result is terrible but we're @manchesterunited we will bounce back for sure with your support!" he wrote.

"Another big game coming up time to prepare for that one! 200 Goals now in my young career but it's time to add trophies in my career... time to work even harder"

Mourinho, meanwhile, raised eyebrows with his own post-match comments where he referenced the times he had previously knocked United out of the Champions League as an opposition manager.
