Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named the Worst Premier League Signing of the Season in the annual Sports Mole Readers' Awards.

The former Arsenal striker joined the Blues from Barcelona on deadline day last year, but went on to endure a torrid season as Chelsea hugely underperformed, eventually finishing in 12th place.

A massive outlay on new players both last summer and in January resulted in Chelsea going through the 2022-23 campaign with a bloated squad and ultimately suffering their lowest finish for almost 30 years.

Aubameyang was part of the initial influx of players, but failed to nail down a regular starting spot under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter or Frank Lampard throughout the campaign.

Indeed, the 33-year-old was even omitted from the Champions League squad after the turn of the year in order to make room for the January arrivals.

Aubameyang ended the campaign with just one Premier League goal to his name from 15 appearances, only five of which were starts.

Those figures were enough to earn him 20.5% of your votes as the worst signing in our end-of-season awards, although it proved to be the most competitive of any of the categories.

Liverpool loanee Arthur Melo, who left without playing a single minute in the Premier League, finished second in the voting with 16.6%, while Tottenham Hotspur's Richarlison was narrowly behind with 16%.

Richarlison joined in a big-money move from Everton but bizarrely ended the season with more yellow cards for taking his shirt off when celebrating goals than he did actual goals, having seen his first two disallowed by VAR.

The Brazilian did eventually get his first league goal for the club to seemingly earn a point at the death for Spurs after a three-goal comeback against Liverpool, only for Liverpool to then net a winner even later on.

Chelsea's big-spending and poor performance saw them provide more candidates than any other club, and Mykhaylo Mudryk earned 14.4% of the votes, while Marc Cucurella was deemed sixth-worst with 9.5%.

Manchester United loanee Wout Weghorst rounds off the top five, having failed to score a league goal during his time at the club.
