UEFA are believed to have confirmed that Wayne Rooney will only serve the third match suspension if he picks up a red card offence in an England match.
It was initially believed that the 26-year-old could serve the third match suspension if he was sent off in any UEFA match including the Champions League within the next four years. However, the ban will only come into action if the striker is disciplined in a national fixture, according to BBC Sport.
The Manchester United forward was successful in his appeal to alter the frontman's initial Euro 2012 three-match ban.
The ex-Everton forward will now be suspended for England's group clashes against France and Sweden, but will be available for selection in the final group match against co-hosts Ukraine.
