It's fair to say that we have made some disappointing selections since the start of the year, but slowly but surely, we are beginning to build up a head of steam as we start to approach the final half-a-dozen games of the Premier League campaign.
However, one unexpected result prevented us from enjoying an excellent return last week. Ahead of their game with Queens Park Rangers, we picked West Bromwich Albion Joleon Lescott due to the Baggies' strong defensive record at home and QPR being less than impressive away from home. Three first-half goals later and we were left ruing our decision, but what can you do? That's the unpredictability of the top flight for you.

Who to pick
1. Wayne Rooney
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes that it is the ideal time to travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United, but in reality, it's the perfect weekend for United to host a City side who have slumped to fourth place in the standings in recent weeks. Manuel Pellegrini's team did have their chances in their defeat to Crystal Palace but it's in defence where the uncertainty lies, and Wayne Rooney could capitalise. The 29-year-old has been in terrific form of late, with his last five goals for United all coming at the Theatre of Dreams, and with Louis van Gaal's outfit having the chance to move four points clear of their local rivals, expect Rooney to lead from the front on Sunday afternoon.
2. Loic Remy
Ever since leaving QPR to sign for Chelsea in the summer, Loic Remy has endured a frustrating time at Stamford Bridge, with the superb form of Diego Costa leaving him to just eight starts in all competitions. However, when deputising for the Spanish international, Remy has impressed with seven goals, two of which have been winning efforts in games against Hull City and Stoke City over the past few weeks. The Frenchman has needed to be patient for opportunities but he should get another chance against his former club on Sunday afternoon. QPR are banging in goals at the other end, but their defence remains as fragile as it has been all season and Remy should have openings to add a sixth Premier League goal to his tally.
3. Alberto Moreno
We know what you're thinking. This is probably the most random selection we have made all season? Possibly, but when offering you some defensive advice ahead of this week's matches, who better to pick than Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno? He's had his critics, but given the formation that the Merseyside giants use, you are always going to be left at risk of being caught out of position on occasions. On the plus side, the Spaniard offers options going forward for the Reds, and he makes up for his defensive frailties with the potential of providing goals and assists. Also, after Newcastle's inept performance at Sunderland last week, you have to believe that he is in with a good shout of a clean sheet too.
Who to avoid
1. Jesus Navas
Jesus Navas has been a regular fixture in the Manchester City starting lineup this season but due to his lack of goals, he needs to offer quality from the right flank or find himself at risk of being benched by Pellegrini. After his performance at Palace on Monday night, that's what is expected to happen against Manchester United on Sunday after he was substituted just after the hour mark after failing miserably with his delivery into the box. Even if the former Sevilla man does remain in the team, his failure to score a Premier League goal this season means that he is a near certainty to offer few or no points this weekend.
2. Scott Dann
Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann appeared in this list last week and he went on to contribute to his side's brilliant 2-1 win over Man City. However, despite appearing to have an obsession with the former Birmingham City player, we think that it will be difficult for the Eagles to replicate such a performance five days later at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland. The Black Cats will be on a high after last week's triumph over rivals Newcastle United, and despite Palace's success since the arrival of Alan Pardew at the turn of the year, they've only kept two clean sheets since January 1. The temptation will be there to select Dann, but we believe that you will be better off looking elsewhere.
3. Christian Eriksen
From a personal perspective, it's been an up-and-down season for Christian Eriksen. At times, he has looked like the perfect foil for Harry Kane - his 11 goals and numerous assists prove that - but more recently, he has performed with the inconsistency that plagued him at the start of the season. Eriksen has the ability to offer a bit of magic at any given opportunity, but it's been 11 games since he found the back of the net, and with Spurs offering very little in the final third against Burnley, the Dane could find himself one of the victims of rotation from Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to freshen up his team for the match with Aston Villa.
